The Times Higher Education World University Rankings for 2027 reveal that three Asian institutions have entered the top-15 tier for the first time.
Tsinghua University secured the 11th position, Peking University was placed at 13th, and the National University of Singapore (NUS) attained the 15th slot, thereby moving ahead of ETH Zurich, which had previously held a higher rank.
Hong Kong’s academic performance also improved, with five of its universities now featuring inside the worldwide top 100 list. The rankings confirm that Oxford has retained the number-one position for an 11th straight year, while institutions from the United States and the United Kingdom continue to dominate the remaining places within the top ten. Beyond the elite group, universities from the Asia-Pacific region are represented, including the University of Tokyo at 27th, Nanyang Technological University at 28th, and Zhejiang University at 34th.

China’s representation in the ranking expanded further, with Fudan University appearing at 38th, Shanghai Jiao Tong University at 39th, and Nanjing University at 59th.
Australia contributed two strong performers: the University of Melbourne, positioned at 34th, and Monash University, listed at 61st. South Korea added Seoul National University at 56th and KAIST at 64th.
In Hong Kong, the University of Hong Kong secured the 33rd spot, while City University of Hong Kong was placed at 70th, completing the region’s representation among the top-100 universities worldwide.
